Click Here95 percent of the national ID cards are successful and ready for collection, the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Chris Onyemenam said Tuesday in Minna.
Speaking while inspecting the contract for the construction of the disaster recovery sites of the National Identity Management System located in Minna, the NIMC boss said the ID card project conducted in 2003 is a great success and still valid for all type of transactions.
He said the percentage of failure and damage is as a result of human errors and other related problems that can happen to any computerised systems.
He urged those that did not receive their ID cards to check the nearest collection centres or the website of the Commission to verifies the status of their ID cards.
He said most people missed their ID cards as a result of change in locations and difficulties in tracing where their cards are, but assures that anybody that has such problem can contacts nearest office of the NIMC or visit the website to trace it.
He said the Commission will soon come out with a biometric ID card that will replace the former ID cards. According to him, the advantage of the Biometric cards is to capture all the biometric data of individuals and network it with all systems.
He said Galaxy Backbone will provide the bandwidth for the commission to hand the data management effective under a special agreement between the two agencies.
